What's New at Knit and Stitch
|
Spring is here and the new yarns have started to arrive! While Spring may turn minds to thoughts
of fancy, my mind turns to cotton and silk and linen and other fine fibers.
Let’s start with Schaeffer Yarns- we have chosen 2 for summer: Laurel, 100% mercerized pima
cotton, 4-4.5 st/inch, with 400 yards per skein. 2 skeins are perfect for Pattern # 104, Eyelet-Check
pullover or pattern #176, Directional Points vest. We also have Sandra a cotton rayon nubby
blend. It knits at 3.5-4 st/inch with 225 yards per skein. And the colors…both yarns come in ”
Helen Hayes”, soft purples, eggshell blues and sea foam greens, “Margaret Mead”, a palate of
cream and browns with a hint of rust, and “Empress Wu Zhao”, soft greens, blues and browns.
Want to go bold? Try “Billie Holiday” in deep royal blue, eggplant and just a smidge of sea-blue
turquoise.
We have added some new colors of Rowan’s Natural Silk Aran, my favorites are a beautiful taupe
and a navy. We now carry Rowan’s new “Jeans”- which is a cotton blend with a casual, summer
feel.
Some great new knitting books have come in. “Easy Knitted Socks”(Jennifer Trotman), covers
ballet slippers to slippers. “Favorite Socks” is a compilation of Interweave Knitters sock patterns.
“The Natural Knitter”(Barbara Albright) has both new and traditional patterns as well as
information about different types of fibers. “Lace Style(Pam Allen and Ann Bud) has summer
shells, skirts, socks and more, all with beautiful lace patterns. “Twinkles Big City Knits”(Wenlan
Chia) is a fantastic collection of chunky chic designs, many that don’t have that “chunky” look.
“Party Knits”(Melody Griffiths and Lesley Stanfield) has backless sweaters and evening halters.
“Glamour Knits”(Ericka Knight)- knit a bra or a bracelet or matinée length gloves. “25 More Bags To
Knit”(Emma King) has more of the great patterns that were in the first book. “Top Dog Knits”(Jil
Eaton) has hats, blankets and pillows for the important dogs in your life. “Knitting in Africa”(from
Elle magazine) uses stripes and buttons in innovative ways combined with unusual patterns, like
a Captain’s jacket, makes this a winner. “Knitprovisation” combines knitting with existing clothing
or fabric. “Couture Knits” has a range of patterns, from a lace bodice to a conservative jacket.
“Knits for Cats and Dogs” is one of the cutest pet design books- for those of you that have been
dying to knit a pair of high heeled shoes, there is a pattern(they call it a dog toy..but imagine the
possibilities). “Felted Jewelry” and “Felt Frenzy.” have a broad range of felted knits, using yarn
and roving( which we can order for you, although we don’t stock it regularly). “The Elegant Knitter”
offers both patterns and technique directions for a broad range of patterns, from mittens to very
interesting, but not difficult to knit, scarves. "Fitted Knits" has hip, contemporary patterns, while
"Classic Knits" has more conservative, timeless knits. For you spring brides, check out "Wedding
Knits!"
